Outline of Entrance Examinations for the Graduate School

The Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences conducts entrance examinations several times a year. They include general admission, admission for adult education, admission for international students, admission for students seeking a degree in a new field (Division of Law and Letters only), and self-recommendation admission (Division of Industrial Systems Management and Innovation only). Applicant eligibility and selection methods depend on the type of entrance examination. Note : Admission capacity shows the total numbers for general admission, admission for adult education, admission for international students, admission for students seeking a degree in a new field (Division of Law and Letters only), and self-recommendation admission (Division of Industrial Systems Management and Innovation only).

Selection of students to be admitted to the Division of Law and Letters

The Division of Law and Letters (DLL) conducts entrance examinations with a predetermined number for admission to each Course of the Law and Politics and the Humanities. The total capacity for the DLL is 11, consisting of 4 in the Law and Politics Course and 7 in the Humanities Course. During the application period, applicants to the DLL should submit application documents, specifying the desired Course and field of specialization. Written and oral examinations are conducted separately by each Course and field of specialization.

There are four ways of selection: (1) general admission, (2) admission for adult education (who have work or other experiences in society for two years or more), (3) admission for international students, and (4) admission for students seeking a degree in a new field (for applicants whose fields of specialization in their universities etc. differ from the fields for which they are applying in the DLL).
For (1) to (3), an academic achievement test (specialized examination) and an oral examination based on submitted materials such as research plans are conducted. For (4), academic achievement test (essay) and an oral examination based on submitted materials such as research plans are conducted.

Selection of students to be admitted to the Division of Industrial Systems Management and Innovation

The Division of Industrial Systems Management and Innovation (DISMI) conducts entrance examinations with a predetermined number for admission to each Course of the Economics and Management, and the Environment and Resource Management. The total capacity for the DISMI is 7, consisting of 4 in the Economics and Management Course and 3 in the Environment and Resource Management Course. During the application period, applicants to the DISMI should submit application documents specifying the desired course and field of specialization. Written and oral examinations are conducted separately by each Course and field of specialization.

There are four ways of selection: (1) general admission, (2) admission for adult education (who have work or other experiences in society for two years or more), (3) admission for international students, and (4) self-recommendation admission.
The following types of examinations are conducted: For (1), an academic achievement test (specialized examination) and oral examination based on submitted materials such as research plans; for (2), an academic achievement test (essay) and oral examination based on submitted materials such as research plans; for (3), an academic achievement test (specialized examination, Japanese) and an oral examination based on submitted materials such as research plans; and for (4), an oral examination based on research plans.

The Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences holds informational meetings about the graduate school. In the meetings, we present an outline of the graduate school and entrance examinations, and also offer individual consultation with professors from each Division and Course.
